Grant being negotiated for Large scale batteries

Exciting news on the way regarding large-scale batteries.
As always Duke Energy is on the cutting edge of this experiment!24 November 2009-- Duke Energy said it would match a $22 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to design, build and install large-scale batteries to store wind energy at one of its wind farms in Texas. The 20 MW storage project at
the Notrees Windpower Project is valued at $43.6 million.
Batteries at the wind farm will store excess wind energy and discharge it when demand is high. The 95 wind turbines at Notrees have a capacity of 151 MW.

Duke Energy and DOE must negotiate terms of the grant before any funds are released. The Electric Power Research Institute will advise Duke Energy on the project.

Surprisingly GVTC has given him the meter for his home, this is cost that the home owner usually has to contribute, ($2,000.00-$3,000.00 value). That is outstanding!

Texans not Shy for their Share of Stimulus

Nationally, 2,200 applicants are seeking four times the $7.2 billion allocated for stimulus spending on broadband. The overwhelming response prompted federal officials to delay the first awards until December.
Texans weren't shy asking for their share. The 170-plus applications sought about $3.3 billion.
I'm amazed when I venture into a City meeting to find maybe ten companies looking to bid on stimulus work. The City of San Antonio Small Business is wanting to give these opportunities to the local business owners. There are business owners as far as Fresno California wanting work here in Texas. It is no secret that we have been sheltered from the storm that has hit many cities such as California, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan. Wake up!! Let's keep our locals working

Scott Persymn & Stan Zwinni joined the Texas State University for the annual job fair.
Local Contractors were there to meet the new graduating class of 2010.
Texas State host this event for their Graduating Class of
Construction Management.
Wind Man Energy and Dausin Electric were there to scope out the new generation of electrical contractors in the construction field

Turbine Sound

Acoustical experts agree there is no evidence that such sounds, which emitted by a variety of sources, could be harmful to health--indeed, if these levels were so harmful, urban dwelling (city Living)would be impossible.

In Short, turbines sound is quieter than many ambient sounds and is equally safe, and while some people may be disturbed by even a relatively quiet sound, the reality is that thousands of turbines have been successfully integrated with communities throughout the country.

Wind Turbines indeed change our landscape. They are a symbol of our clean and healthy energy future.

Conservsation VS Cost of Turbines

The requests we receive for estimating systems for clients has been overwheming.
I visit with companies outside of Texas and compare their needs to our clients needs.
Texans use more energy compared to any state is the United state. The return on investment should be within 10 years. In order for this ROI to happen we need to conserve.

1. Are your indoor lights on during the day?
2. Auto shut off on all computers.
3. Timers on outdoor lighting....The day may come when they ticket for wasting energy. Power Companies could start to monitor your neighborhood, same a water wasting.
4. Check your pool pump....a energy hog most likely forgotten.
5. Water heater...Can I wash this load in cold?? Shorten showers.
6. The smell of sun dried laundry... A lost art from the past. Saves $$
7. Has TV become your companion... Left on when nobody is watching it?

Smaller units(1kw-5kw) are used to assist you in supplying renewable energy back to the utility companies.

Lighter turbines (25kw-50kw) are being released from many outstanding companies mid 2010. New models are being created for the new generation.

There are smaller units available that are being linked together for the "small wind farm effect", 5-7 lighter units spinning faster creating energy.

South Texas wins $114M in Funding

A rural south farm in Sarita Texas that produces clean energy for San Antonio will receive an award of 114 million - one of the 12 projects in eight states that were selected Tuesday for stimulus funds.

The Penascal Wind Farm is owned and operated by PPM Energy. A Spanish company with North America headquarters in Portland Oregon.We have the coastal wind let's get some action from our business leaders here in Texas.
Hmmm Does that mean a Spanish company is getting stimulus money, because they base their headquarters in Portland????

CPS & other utility companies are searching for renewable options. The foreign companies are leasing Texas land. If Texas was a Country the state would be 12th in size. Our land is valuable asset.

As stated by Tim Geithner "This renewable project program will spur the manufacture and development of clean energy in urban and rural America, Allowing us to protect our environment, create good jobs and revitalize our nation's economy."
It should mention that it is adding to the good of other nations
Rep. Solomon Ortiz, D-Corpus Christi , whose congressional district includes Kenedy County, said funds would provide capital to PPMEnergy in place of tax credits.
Were the tax credit given to the company from Spain?

We have the land, people, resources, and the ability (A&M University) to create these wind farms.
The Farmers & Ranchers need the trust that they are being treated with the utmost respect and integrity from developers. This would secure Texas in creating more renewable energy projects for our future. Job growth will follow the wind or solar farms. Rural areas will grow and that would lead to more money for the infrastructure.

Struggle for the Best. Most of the time and effort the last months have been in research and development. New testing and certification requirements from the Department of Energy (DOE) is assuring us that what we sell will be back by the manufactures specifications. Looking for the most wind efficient turbines is what we need in the southern area of Texas. Coastal conditions do effect the wear of the gear boxes and turbines....salt air is hard on machinery.

Larger units and manufactures joining forces will soon enable us to get our hands on larger (25kw to 50kw) wind turbines that produce more kilowatts per hour to cover our usages.

Most of the requests have been for units producing 5,000 to 7,000 kilowatt hours per month.

Here is Texas we use an abundant amount of electricity....we need to modify our properties to conserve energy.

Ideally I'm looking for wind turbine that have a return on investment (ROI) between 7-9 years.

Without conservation first, your ROI in not going to be profitable...and isn't that our main goal.

We have to be aware and watch the changes in today's law. Don't stick your head in the sand until you find that your power bill has a Renewal Energy charge that pays for energy to be transmitted from South Dakota or Florida to the state of Texas because of an investment company's buy back rights.

The Goldwater Institute spoke up and has asked the Arizona Supreme Court to strike down the rule and utility surcharge. This will prevent Corporation Commission from estabishing itself as a fourth branch of state government

US Small Wind Market Grew 78% in 2008...Strong federal policies like the federal investment tax credit for small wind are critical to future growth. Never have we had the time (eight years) to create a market and industry where the supplier could have time to produce a product for the market to take advantage of the tax incentives.

Dausin Electric and Wind Man Energy teams were out in forces last Wednesday.
They served over 350 Rib Eye Steaks with all the fixings at the Annual BBQ
Appreciation Luncheon. Many of the guest were interested in hearing what was happening in the wind business. Well it's starting to boiling. Now that we have incentive at a federal level for the next 8 years, this gives the manufactures time to get the ball rolling. Small wind industry will take leaps in growth over the next 5 years.

Energy Projects Must Secure Financing to Receive Stimulas

"People are scrambling because it's a really tough economy out there, "said Adam Boucher and founder of Adam Capital Inc., which directs the Ethos Green Energy Asset Finance fund.
Investor are standing at the doors of banks looking at projects. the challenge is when stimulas money is involved. The window is tight. The challenge is, we can't sit back on our heels.
Companies banking on stimulas funds to offset 30 percent of their construction cost must line up the rest of their funding before the deadline set by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Carbon Cap 101...it's just the begining!!

President Obama has called for legislation to cap global warming pollution, and congressional leaders are already working on a draft bill. We expect the House version to go through a committee vote by Memorial Day and the Senate to debate a bill later this summer. This means that we have just 9 weeks to shape one of the most critical pieces of the puzzle to solve the climate challenge.

There's no time to waste--and that's where you come in. Next month, your representative and senators will be back home in your state and district for their two-week April recess.
Write your Senators..........We do not want additional taxes on our carbon use!! This is a plan for large corporations to be taxed on global warming. The trickle down effect will effect all of us!!

Wind Turbine Grant Infomation...on it's way! New Info

The grant rules were changed as of the 17th when the new stimulus package was signed. Good in everyones favor! They are now giving a grant of 30% for the installation & turbines or you may take a production tax credit if your ranch does not qualify for the grant money. This was a $4,000.00 cap. The new grant will be out with in 2-3 weeks, Wind Man is staying in touch with the Temple USDA office very closely. They will call me as soon as the new paper work has been released. If you would like to read more see see USDA Farm Bill Section 9007 Rural Energy for America Program There is grants and loan information on this website.The good news is the grants that are under $200,000.00 (project) have cut back on the paper work needed. We are excited to see the changes, I will contact you as soon as USDA sends us the current grant. If you have any question on what you reading in the Internet..please call Wind Man . February 13 – The House and Senate both approved the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which contains several provisions intended to keep the wind energy industry growing in the current adverse economic and financial climate. The legislation includes a grant program to monetize tax incentives for renewable energy, a three-year extension of the production tax credit, provisions to promote transmission for renewable energy, and a removal of the cost cap on the small wind investment tax credit. The legislation is expected to be signed into law by the President on February 16 or 17.

The future in Wind Energy is looking bright, the intent to extend the production tax credit is what we have been pushing for, five years was the goal but three years is very optimistic. This is exciting...a grant program to monetize tax incentives for renewable energy??? What is that all going to be about? !!Till tomorrow....or maybe the next day!

2/3/09 Iowa Pushes California out of #2 in the Race for Wind Power

The Production Tax Credit, a plan Congress created in 1992, provides tax credits to farmers and companies who implement wind energy to help subsidize the cost of installation. Gov. Chet. Culver of Iowa has proposed that Congress adopt a five-year extension of the Production Tax Credit, which is set to expire in December 2009."Investing in wind is investing in job creation and economic growth." Gov.Chet Culver said in a statement. An extension would help make wind energy a permanent and viable energy option not only for Iowa, but the country.The tax credits are performance-based and do not use excessive tax dollars. In order to receive the credit, companies have to hire a certain number of people at a certain wage. The tax credit is meant to offset upstart costs. The implementation of such a power plan shows how committed Iowa is to wind energy and alternative power, he said.
We need a five year extension for the Production Tax Credit. Time passes quickly when dealing with a performance based commodity. Contact your Government officials now!

Beeville County Wildlife Management Association held their yearly meeting last Friday night. Over 150 people attended for the 10 gun auction and fish fry. Randy Wall was there to hold the meeting, new officers were elected that evening. Everyone was reminded how important it is to not only feed your livestock but the wildlife on your land. This years drought has been hard on all the animals not just our pockets. When this happen the wildlife rob your feed and do damage to your feeder. Today let's not only put our hopes & dreams in the economy but think of the famers and ranchers that rain will come this week!

MONTROSE COLORADO – While President Barack Obama directed regulators in Washington, D.C., on Monday to tighten limits on greenhouse gases from vehicles, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter made a stop in Montrose to recognize the Delta-Montrose Electric Association for taking the lead in renewable and energy efficiency programs.“Then new energy economy is something we talked about during the election,” Ritter told DMEA members at the Montrose City Hall. “Colorado is poised to be a leader in this. I congratulate you on being a part of Colorado’s new energy economy.”
Rumor has it that Colorado will be the next Silicon Valley of Energy. Think about it......Location, Beauty and not to mention the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. A majority of the state is zoned 3-4 on the wind scale, just getting up those mountains could be tricky. Watch for Wind Man Energy on the slopes.

New Figures in ...Texas still # 1 Top Wind Producing State

Wind farms were built at a blistering pace last year, as wind power capacity grew by a record 50 percent in 2008, according to new figures from the American Wind Energy Association.
Texas, already the top wind-producing state, extended its lead, while California fell from second to third in the rankings, passed by Iowa.
However, the head of the wind association, Denise Bode, called the numbers “both exciting and sobering” in a statement.
Financing for many wind project has dried up in the wake of the banking sector’s troubles, and some turbine manufacturers — including, most recently Clipper Windpower in Iowa — are laying off workers.
The industry is hoping that the stimulus bill working its way through Congress will help the industry.
Ms. Bode has previously said that, “If something isn’t done, we could see as much as a 50 percent reduction in new wind starts in 2009 compared to 2008.”
On the bright side, the industry group said that 85,000 people are employed in the wind industry, compared to about 50,000 a year ago.
Congress is working now to help get funds in the right people's hand to bring growth to this industry. Many Wind Farms are in the process of being built, near completion.
